Sasha Bahadur (she/her)

Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)

Meet Sasha

Hello! My name is Sasha Bahadur and I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying).

I assist and support people of all ages with depression, anxiety, traumatic experiences, and other various mental health concerns.

Prior to my journey into the mental health field, I previously volunteered as medical first responder with St. John’s Ambulance and completed the pre-service firefighter program at the Fire and Emergency Services Training Institute. My experience as a medical responder helped me develop a deep appreciation for holistic approaches that focus on prioritizing the connection between the mind and the body.

Transitioning to mental health restructured my meaning of life on a multitude of levels. Developing greater self-awareness, focusing on the connection between my mind and body, and confronting my past experiences with a curious mind free of judgement. Therapy didn’t just help refocus my passions, it restructured my present self and continues to promote growth for my future self. Together, we will approach your circumstances the same way, navigating challenges with an open mind and promoting self-exploration and growth along the way.

My Approach

Your goals in therapy are collaborative, and will be individualized according to your needs. My priority is that you feel welcomed, validated, safe and relieved after our sessions. Therapy can feel uncomfortable and sometimes unnatural, because you are allowed to show up with all vulnerabilities. Our emotions are roller coasters, and rather than contain or hide them as we do during our day-to-day lives, I encourage expression, exploration and acceptance of them in sessions. You are free to feel and show your emotions in a safe space, free of judgement.

During sessions, you can expect an integrative approach that utilizes mindfulness, cognitive-behavioural, dialectic-behavioural, solution-focused, narrative, and possibly EMDR techniques to help assist your goals. These approaches are tools to help promote personal growth and exploration of your past, present and possibly future self.

I encourage self-discovery and growth in therapy while offering support and validation in a welcoming space. Though I focus on growth in your present and future self, self-exploration leads to confronting difficult past experiences and many times a less empowered self. Together, we may tackle difficult and uncomfortable experiences and feelings. In doing so, we will build resilience and inner peace at your pace. We will explore your inner strengths and restructure a more meaningful life so that you can be your authentic self moving forward!

Mindfulness involves building awareness to remain in the present moment. Mindfulness promotes curiosity free of judgement, observing thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations to deepen self-awareness. Mindfulness additionally promotes enhancing emotional regulation through grounding techniques and maintaining a sense of calm.

Mindfulness

Narrative Therapy

Narrative therapy is a form of therapy that aims to separate the individual from the problem, allowing the individual to externalize their issues rather than internalize them. In narrative therapy, we explore and reframe the stories we tell ourselves to foster a more empowering self-narrative.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)

CBT focuses on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. It helps individuals identify and confront negative or irrational thoughts, replacing them with more balanced and realistic ones. CBT equips people with practical skills to manage their emotions, overcome obstacles, and make positive changes in their lives.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR helps support people in working through trauma and upsetting life events. It involves recalling a difficult memory while engaging in bilateral stimulation, like moving the eyes back and forth. This method is thought to help the brain reprocess the memory, making it feel less overwhelming and emotionally charged.

“It is not our abilities that show what we truly are, but our choices”

Perks of Working with Sasha

  • I’m committed to offering a safe space where I show up as my genuine self, meeting you with compassion regardless of who you are.

  • I will provide a safe space where we empower the skill of being curious rather than judgemental.

  • I integrate many different therapeutic techniques that explore you as a whole rather than a sum of parts.

I specialize in working with individuals dealing with self-esteem or self-worth concerns, emotional dysregulation, stress, grief/loss, processing traumatic experiences, interpersonal issues, and dealing with life transitions. My ideal client is someone seeking self-development, building resilience, and a more meaningful life.

Outside the Therapy Room

Outside the therapy room, I spend time playing video games and binge-watching my favourite movies with my family and my dog! When I’m outdoors, I enjoy playing volleyball with friends and going on road trips.

Though I may not always like exercising, I try to dedicate myself to a strict diet and workout schedule to achieve my personal fitness goals.

I try to live a balanced life outside of therapy so I can show up for our sessions as my most genuine and competent self!
